Post Buckeye Battles -- More Lizards

In the run-up to Buckeye Battles, I was more worried about painting than posting.  But today I snapped pics of a couple units that I haven't posted before.  First are my Saurus Warriors.  I was trying to crank them out and got them done on Wednesday before the tournament after about a weeks worth of evenings.  All pics were with my new phone, and I am getting a very pronounced purple/pink in the background even though it is actually pure white ...

Next are a couple pics of my Skink Priest.  Cranked him out on Thursday (left for the tournament on Friday night).

More Terradons

Still doing some work on Saurus Warriors that aren't done yet, so I thought I would snap some pics of my second Terradon unit.  I did the mounts in a different color scheme that my first unit (look for them in an earlier post) so they are easier to keep track of on the battlefield.  But the basing style and the riders are done the same way, so they still look like they belong to the same army.  Pics are from my phone but they still turned out.

More Cold One Cavalry

Cranked out a champion, musician, and a couple rank-and-file last night and snapped a few quick pics with my phone.  I now have a complete unit for my Buckeye Battles army plus a couple extras.

Chameleon Skinks

Also not new, some Lizardmen Chameleon Skinks.  Unlike the rest of the skinks in my army, they have green scales on their backs instead of blue.  In order to maintain continuity, the unscaled skin is still a dark, near-black color.

Stegadon

This is an old model, but since I don't have anything to post on my current projects, so I thought I would post some pics of my Stegadon.

Saurus Scar Vet BSB -- Done!

Cranked this guy out last night.  iPhone pic, so color balance is a little off, but it's clear enough.  Here he is:

Carnosaur!!!

I am not going to use a Slann at Buckeye Battles, and it has nothing to do with game-play.  The real reason is because I love this model:

The Carnosaur itself is unmodified except for the custom-sculpted base.  The rider is a modified Kroq-Gar.  The head was sawn off and replaced with the head from the Temple Guard sprue.  I cut the fingers off the left hand and used green stuff to resculpt it into an armored gauntlet that looks wrapped around the handle of a shield.  The shield itself is from a bits pack ("Lizardmen Oldblood Shields") available through Games Workshop.  The big sword is custom sculpted from a piece of plasticard for the blade and green stuff for the details.  Finally, I took a couple of identical banner-top type bits, cut the skull off one, and put them together into a round shape to make the totem (and cut down the top of the spear that serves as the pole). 

Saurus Cavalry -- First Group

Finished up the first group of 5 Saurus Cavalry tonight -- 4 rank-and-file to join the unit standard bearer.  Here are a few quick pics.

Next up are the BSB model, unit champion, musician, and a couple more regular riders.

More Lizards -- Scar Vets

Here are some pics of some Saurus Scar Veterans.

First, a model on foot I will be using at Buckeye Battles:

Next is my Limited-Edition Saurus BSB that I won't be using, but that looks pretty.  I gave him a shield (slung over his back) and added a couple horns/tusks to the bottom of the dangly bits of the standard.

Finally a WiP shot of my mounted Scar Vet BSB.  Body is the champion model from the old metal Saurus Cavalry models with an extra back plate green-stuffed on to make him look more armored..\  Right arm is a Temple Guard Champ arm with some bits added to the top of the halberd to make it look even bigger (great weapon).  The head was removed and a Temple Guard head (crest removed) stuck on, with some green stuff work to blend the head in with the back of the crest that was still on the body (extended the dino-skull helm back).  Left arm is from the Saurus Warrior sprue. The banner is made from some bits from the Stegadon and Temple Guard sprues.  The top part is already painted because it was part of another BSB model that I scrapped.  It's not glued on at the moment.

More Lizards -- Terradons

Haven't quite finished my Saurus Cavalry, but I did take some pretty good pics of one of my Terradon units I painted a while back.

Saurus Cavalry Unit Standard

I was hoping to get in a lengthy paint session tonight, but it didn't happen.  The plan was to get 5 riders done for my Saurus cavalry, and I only got the unit standard done.  Snapped a couple quick pics before heading to bed.

As you can see, the old metal Saurus riders fit perfectly on the Dark Elf cold ones.  You just need to snip off and file down the high front and back of the saddles, which is really easy on the plastic mounts.

More Lizardmen Cold Ones

Since I was happy with my test model, I painted up 9 more cold ones as mounts for my Saurus Cavalry.  I am only planning on running a unit of 8 at Buckeye Battles, but I did a couple extra for more flexibility in the future.  I will be able to run either a single unit of 10 or two units of 5.

Pics are from my phone again, so quality and color balance aren't perfect, but you get the idea.  First a couple groups of 5:

Cold One for Saurus Cavalry

I am signed up for the Buckeye Battles tournament in Ohio this coming July, and am planning on taking Lizardmen.  Although they are not the most optimal choice, I want to bring a unit of Saurus Cavalry.  Rather than using the current range, I am combining Dark Elf Cold Ones with old metal Saurus Cavalry Riders.

This is my prototype Cold One.  I'm planning on bringing a unit of 8, including a heavily converted Scar Veteran Battle Standard Bearer.

Slann Mage Priest

These are some pictures of a Slann Mage Priest from my own collection.  It features a custom-sculpted base designed to look like a small temple ziggurat.
